Art Beat is an annual Art Competition formerly known as "Write on." Since 2012, the Grand Junction Commission on Arts and Culture has read hundreds of written works of art from Grand Valley youth with topics ranging from creativity, music, and public art.
This year the Commission on Arts and Culture decided to adapt this program to include all mediums such as photography, video, song, visual and more. The goal of the competition is to provide an opportunity for youth to dig deep and share what they love. Youth are encouraged to create an essay, lyrics, video, song, photography, short stories, original poems, or more to express themselves. A written component must be included with all submissions describing how the work relates to the theme.
Arts related prizes will be awarded to the top finishers and the first-place winners in each category will be invited to share their pieces online and experience an on-air interview with KAFM community radio.
This annual contest opens in February so keep your eyes open for Art Beat 2023!
