The Grand Junction Police Department has made an arrest for a 2016 homicide. Darin Thrailkill, age 38, is in custody for the 2016 homicide of a juvenile.
On July 2, 2016, a St. Mary’s Hospital employee notified the Grand Junction Police Department of an unresponsive boy who was declared deceased after life-saving efforts were exhausted. An autopsy ruled the manner of death a homicide.
In October 2023, an arrest warrant was issued for Darin Levi Thrailkill on the following charges:
- Murder in the First Degree, (1F), per CRS 18-3-102(1)(f)
- Murder in the Second Degree, (2F), per CRS 18-3-103(1)(a)
Thrailkill was located in North Port, Florida and was arrested on October 3, 2023. Thrailkill was extradited back to Mesa County in November and remanded to the Mesa County Detention Facility where he awaits trial. Per Senate Bill 23-075, no child victim information can be released. There is no further information available at this time.
