[ARCHIVED] City Improves Access to Downtown Parking

The City of Grand Junction is upgrading downtown parking meters to not only accept coins but also credit cards or the use of the Passport app. The new meters will provide easier access for those seeking parking while shopping, dining, or doing business downtown. Improvements to the parking meters and kiosks begin on February 1, 2024, in addition to a planned increase in parking fees.

The city will enhance the way downtown looks by removing meters, installing kiosks in parking lots, and by reducing the number of meters to one per every two parking spaces. These improvements will take place over the next year. The increase in parking fees is tiered so those meters closer to downtown are more expensive which means those that are willing to walk a little further will pay a little less. The increase in parking fees will benefit businesses by creating greater turnover for those wanting to shop or do business while allowing the city to reinvest the revenues in the maintenance and overall parking experience for residents and visitors.

Parking meters will continue to be free on weekends and holidays and after 4 p.m. on weekdays. Parking garages and lots are also available throughout the area for use by employees and community members. Parking rates and the fines list are available at GJCity.org as well as maps representing downtown parking.
