On October 7, 2025, at approximately 10:15 a.m., officers with the Grand Junction Police Department (GJPD) responded to a report of a possible weapon at Grand Junction High School located at 1400 N 5th Street.
During the course of the investigation, officers learned that school staff had overheard students discussing having a gun in a backpack. Working closely with school administration, officers identified and contacted the students. A shelter-in-place was issued as a precaution while the investigation was conducted. No weapon was found, and it was determined the statements made by students were untrue.
The situation was resolved safely following coordination between the Grand Junction Police Department and District 51 administration.
The safety of our schools is a top priority for the Grand Junction Police Department. Every report of a potential threat is taken seriously and acted upon swiftly. The GJPD urges all parents to talk with their children about the dangers and consequences of these types of situations.
